About the Role
Based at our Brisbane office, as the Senior Geologist working in the CSG Subsurface team, specifically on the NSW Appraisal and Development projects, you’ll be delivering and maintaining the geological model, generating future appraisal and development well locations, working them up to drill ready status, providing operational support when wells are being drilled, and incorporating results into field and area models and development plans.
Key accountabilities include but not limited to:
Undertake identification, resource, and risk assessment of the hydrocarbon potential of fields and appraisal / development drilling opportunities.
Create and manage field development plans including evaluating post-drill results to upgrade the assessment of field performance expectations, remaining drilling opportunities, risk and uncertainty.
Conduct and document field-wide and semi-regional geoscience studies including the building and maintenance of static reservoir models and to assist in identifying drilling and other field development opportunities.
Provide operational support for drilling wells, including monitoring drilling operations and results, assisting with operational recommendations including evaluation and directional steering decisions.
Complete and support estimates of field reserves, production potential and risk using Santos’s procedures and processes.
Provide assessments of the initial and remaining resource potential of contained fields as part of annual reserves and resource process.
Ensure all technical work is appropriately assured through the Santos Subsurface Assurance process and participate in peer reviews and related assurance processes as required.
Documenting and reporting work at both working level and, as required, for internal and external stakeholder engagement.
Keep up to date with new technology and where appropriate, develop, justify and implement the use of new and innovative technology / software.
Support team and functional capability initiatives, including mentoring/training of junior staff.
Compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS).
Compliance with the Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA).
Compliance with the Santos Corporate Governance and Safety requirements.
About You
We are seeking for candidates with professional experience in the following:
Degree qualified Geoscientist or with higher qualifications.
Extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, including Coal Seam Gas.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary subsurface team supporting field appraisal and development plans.
Experience building geologic models using the Petrel software suite.
Experience in CSG resources assessments, formulating, documenting and presenting to resource certifiers.
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely to stakeholders and management.
Proven self-starter and self-guided, with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with key stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be applied across disciplines and management levels.
Desirable experience for this position includes:
CSG modelling and/or operational experience.
Geophysical interpretation.
Planning and operational experience drilling horizontal SIS wells.
