Glencore Mount Isa Mines is currently seeking a suitable experienced Senior Resource Geologist to join our resource development team within the Mine Technical Services department. This is a permanent full-time position based in family friendly Mount Isa, working on a 5:2/4:3 residential roster with relocation assistance. Our people return home every day and enjoy a thriving town of 23,000 people. You will always have something to do, go to restaurants, movies, join a gym and sporting activities, play golf, as well as fishing and camping and activities at the lake. The operation is situated on land traditionally owned by the Kalkadoon People and we respect their rights and interests.
You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including:
Estimation and reporting of mineral resources to support mine schedules for underground or open cut operations ensuring seamless integration of short-medium and long term plans
Development of resource estimation technical standards including QAQC
The production of a 3D geological model that includes geospatially representative definition of lithology, weathering, alteration, mapping and intrusions pertinent to mineralisation.
JORC reporting
Support internal technical and toll gate reviews for operations and projects
Assist with investigation and implementation of new mining and geology related technology
Drillhole design and schedule management.
Geological digitising and wireframing (including the timely updating of geological information such as faults and domains form drilling and mapping).
Communication of the geospatial location of mineralisation (including in situ and as broken stocks) and to give direction as to the classification of ore and waste to technical services and operations personnel.
Regular geological review of the grade control block models
QAQC of the geological database and geospatial models
Continuously improve the resource model though validation.
Review of stope and mine to mill reconciliation (including material movement and grade validation for investigation of resource model performance).
Undertake workplace inspections and safety observations
The continuous improvement of geoscientific practice within the Queensland Metals business, which includes undertaking technical projects as directed by the mine geology superintendent.
The successful applicant will have the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology (or similar)
>10 years of experience in the mining industry and >5 years in resource estimation
Advanced estimation software skills, preferably with a working knowledge of Leapfrog, Surpac, Deswik and access database software.
Knowledge of python scripting would be highly regarded.
Ability to sign-off as Competent Person for JORC Reporting purposes would be well regarded
Active membership of AusIMM or AIG
Post graduate qualification in geostatistics would be well regarded
Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills
Polymetallic experience will be viewed favourably
