As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
Facilities Management delivers a wide range of 24/7 property and Facilities Management services to the Kedron Emergency Services Complex. The team works closely with onsite clients and stakeholders as well as other government agencies including the Department of Energy and Public Works to strategically manage the building and plant maintenance, fitout and facilties management services across the site and provide strategic advice to ensure accommodation, maintenance and facilities services are in line with whole of government legislation and achieve value for money.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team and will be responsible for the coordination and day-to-day management of horticultural and facilities services to the grounds of the Kedron Emergency Services Complex and ensure maintence of equipment and/or application of chemicals is in managed in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety standards and Safety Data Sheets. You will also provide administration support, including human resource, financial and document management to support the functions of the role and meet organisational requirements.

* Have a current Certificate III or IV in Horticulture or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe.
* Minimum C class drivers licence (non-restricted).
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Supervise, coordinate, plan and undertake garden and grounds maintenance activities, including application of herbicides and pesticides to ensure the grounds are efficiently and effectively maintained to a high standard.
* Manage and maintain knowledge of a wide range of plant species and growing needs, including the ability to select, source and cultivate the appropriate species of plants to maintain and improve the established gardens.
* Ensure maintenance of machinery is carried out in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations to ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards.
* Supervise and coordinate the regular maintenance, cleaning and water testing of the swimming pool to ensure pool safety is maintained to a high standard.
* Liaise and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders on matters concerning the efficient delivery of grounds maintenance services.
* Provide administrative support services, ordering and maintaining supplies, and preparation, reconciliation and payment of relevant invoices, in accordance with departmental requirements.
* Perform duties responsibly in the absence of supervision, using a high level of initiative to resolve issues and support management to meet organisational requirements.
* Contribute to the development, implementation and review of systems, procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives.
