The role
Reporting to the Team Leader Intelligence & Performance, you will actively engage in the comprehensive lifecycle of health prevention programs, contributing to planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Aligned with national, state, and department policies, your responsibilities will extend to providing high-level public and environmental health advice to internal and external stakeholders. You will prepare detailed reports and submissions on diverse environmental health issues, particularly those related to tobacco, conveying complex ideas to both professional and operational supervisors.
Your role involves the application of scientific research and environmental health risk assessments to shape population health interventions, ranging from policy and legislation to risk management strategies. You will contribute to compliance programs, ensuring adherence to legislative requirements through effective education initiatives. Representing the Branch and the Department, you will participate in key committees and regional/state forums, demonstrating proficiency in conveying complex public health policies and reforms. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in the state tobacco licensing application process, managing approvals, renewals, and transfers within statutory timelines.
The successful person
To excel in this position, you must demonstrate a high level of expertise in public health or environmental health, highlighting skills in risk assessment, developing service improvement initiatives, and interpreting legislation. Familiarity with smoking product supply issues is advantageous. Your proven ability to critically analyse information and data, offering evidence-based advice on preventive health matters to colleagues, senior management, and stakeholders, is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to collaborate within a high-performing team, confidently communicate with diverse audiences, and effectively engage in negotiation and consultation processes.
Applicants must hold at least a tertiary degree in Public Health or Environmental Health, and proof of qualification is a prerequisite for appointment. A valid class C motor vehicle license endorsement is necessary, as the incumbent may be required to operate such vehicles. Travel within the State of Queensland may be expected. Compliance with vaccination requirements for specified diseases, as outlined in Health Employment Directive No. 01/16 (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis, hepatitis B, and tuberculosis), is a condition of employment for this role and must be maintained throughout the employment period.
