Job description

Our purpose is to provide safe, culturally appropriate and affordable accommodation for First Nations people who need to be away from home to access services and economic opportunities.
Across its network of hostels, dedicated Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) staff provide accommodation and meals for residents in a supportive environment, assisted by local First Nations service providers and referral agencies.
AHL also supports the Australian Government's efforts to improve economic outcomes for First Nations people. By purchasing goods and services from First Nations businesses at every opportunity, we help support a more inclusive economy. We are proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations people in the Australian Public Service, First Nations employees make up approximately 50% of our workforce.
AHL is looking for a Human Resources Officer (HR) with experience in Performance Management and Probation to join a busy and high performing team. The Human Resources Officer role will work in collaboration with the existing HR team members to perform a variety of administrative support functions to enable the operations of the team. These tasks include providing advice on general HR matters, updating and maintaining registers, databases and procedures and coordination of performance managent and probation reviews.
Our ideal applicant will be strong team player with a customer service focus with pervious experience within HR. The Competitive candidates will demonstrate strong organisational and interpersonal skills and a good understanding of relevant legislation or the ability to acquire.
The key duties of the position include
The key responsibilities include:
  • Work collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders, including developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders. Displaying leadership, providing sound advice and be proactive in decision making.
  • Accurately maintain HR records by updating relevant databases and systems with employee information. This role involves a lot of manual processing.
  • Performance Management and Probation reviews including sending reminders. Ability to assist Performance Management Roadshows (public speaking).
  • Rewards and Recognition Program including gathering nominations and corresponding with recipients. Maintaining the gift register and sending physical awards via post.
  • Provide HR advice and support to the Business units can include Operations Managers and Directors for their responsible cluster of hostels.
  • Working independently including reporting on HR activity progress and assisting in the preparation of reports to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in the timely preparation and development of key corporate documents including, HR related policies, guidelines and strategies.
  • Be familiar with conducting research, analyse and interpreting information from various sources to inform policy considerations.
  • Other duties as directed.
