AHL hostels are a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
The OpportunityWith 42 hostels located nationwide, each day AHL provides a place to stay for 1,200 men, women and children.
In order to continue to make a positive impact on First Nations people and communities, there are over 300 AHL team members in a wide range of roles from working in the hostels themselves to the head office in Canberra.
This opportunity will see you provide a variety of functions to enable the operations of the team including a focus on performance management and probation reviews.
The RoleAs an APS5 Senior HR Officer, you will join a busy and high performing team.
This role has a wide range of responsibilities which gives you exposure to many aspects of HR functions. These include:
- Coordinating performance management and probation reviews
- Managing the employee rewards and recognition program
- Maintaining HR records, databases and systems
- Providing HR advice and support to Operations Managers responsible for a cluster of hostels
- Assisting in the preparation and development of key corporate documents
- Conducting research, analysing and interpreting information to inform policy considerations
People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations peoples are well suited to this opportunity. You will need to be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations peoples.
Experience in a similar role within the APS is required as you will need to have a working knowledge of the Public Service ACT and APS Commissioner’s Directions.
You will also have the proven experience:
- Providing advice and support to managers on how to manage underperformance and reward high performers
- Organising your own workload including managing competing priorities and completing tasks within set timeframes
- Displaying leadership behaviours with proactive decision making
- Communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and building effective working relationships
This role is a fulltime, permanent opportunity based in AHL’s head office in Canberra.
- $75,040 – $79,671 + 15.4% Super
- Pending the outcome of the AHL’s Enterprise Agreement, employees will receive salary increases
