About Jumbunna

Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research (Jumbunna) at UTS assists the University to contribute effectively to Australia's educational and social development by making UTS staff and students aware of Indigenous Australian cultures and associated issues. It is committed to improving the quality of teaching and research at UTS by facilitating active links with the Indigenous community, higher education institutions, and other professions with particular emphasis on Australia's growth as a multi-cultural nation.

About the role

The role of Senior Indigenous Outreach and Events Officeris responsible for effective promotion of the University through the development of strong relationships with key stakeholders including prospective undergraduates (school leavers, non-school leavers) and postgraduate students. It ensures effective promotion of the University through development of strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders including high schools and Indigenous organisations.The role is pivotal in the coordination of the Galuwa programs, a key schools engagement experience.

About You

As the Senior Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer, you will:

  • Work in close collaboration with the Indigenous Outreach Manager and Deputy Director, Students and Community Engagement to develop a prospective student engagements strategy and associated implementation plans.
  • Identify opportunities for integrating pathways initiatives into current and emerging UTS course offerings, and ensure alignment with other relevant UTS strategic initiatives.
  • Establishing appropriate communication systems with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing a detailed knowledge of individual faculty course offerings to be able to liaise effectively with relevant managers to optimise resources and improve participation outcomes.
  • Work closely with faculties and Student Administration Unit to investigate opportunities for streamlining application processes for Indigenous students.

With examples from your previous work experience, please outline, in a separate document, how you meet the following five selection criteria points below:

  • A proven ability to apply knowledge about historical and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies to be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, observe and maintain relevant protocols, and consult in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing a suite of programs to build the educational aspiration for prospective Indigenous students.
  • A high level of understanding of University policy and procedures.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $102,458 to $113,344 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
