Your new role As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will be instrumental in shaping the legal framework of the organisation. Your responsibilities will include:
Providing commercially relevant legal advice across a broad spectrum, including statutory interpretation, contracts and commercial law, water law, property, environmental and planning law, and administrative law, to support the organisation's strategic and operational objectives.
Advising on the development, negotiation, and implementation of contracts and legal agreements to ensure they are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with the organisation’s risk profile.
Independently managing complex or sensitive legal matters with minimal supervision.
Offering legal support to the Legal & Governance team, contributing to the team's success and supporting organisational goals under the guidance of the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and Assistant General Counsel.
Delivering authoritative legal advice to the Executive Leadership and Senior Leadership teams.
Identifying and advising on emerging legal issues and their implications.
Managing litigation and legal disputes, ensuring the organisation's interests are safeguarded.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will possess:- Advanced skills in critical thinking, communication, stakeholder and relationship management, decision-making, and delivering results.
- Significant expertise in statutory interpretation, contract and commercial law, water law, environmental, planning and property law, administrative law, and both civil and criminal litigation procedures.
- At least 6 years of post-admission experience in a similar role, with a preference for backgrounds in construction and/or government sectors.
- A proven track record of litigation experience and process improvement initiatives.
- A tertiary qualification in Law.
- Admission to practice as an Australian legal practitioner.
