This is a open ended Recruitment Pool for Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Fixed Term Full Time, Fixed Term Part Time appointments, with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

This service operates 7 days a week including public holidays.

Position Profile

Our expanding Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) Emergency Department Social Work team is seeking passionate individuals to join the team in providing crucial support during peak referral periods (Late Afternoon and Evening) seven days a week.

This is a fast-paced role responding to diverse and varied circumstances. You will balance autonomy, along with collaboration working closely with medical, mental health and nursing colleagues to respond to complex situations involving trauma, acute medical events, situational crisis and unexpected presentations.

You will apply knowledge drawn from experience in a clinical setting to understand the emotional, social, and psychological needs of our patients and their families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team member to conduct psychosocial assessments and carry out interventions with patients and their families.
  • Advocating for patients during crisis presentations and traumatic situations.
  • Discharge planning by negotiating and bridging communication between young patients and their families and community service providers.
  • Offering support and education to families on parenting approaches and the impact of medical trauma.
  • Providing counselling advocacy and support to families to access additional family services

About our Department:

The Social Work Department provides services to families across the inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings of PCH.  Our Emergency Department (ED) receive a broad range of presentations including trauma and acute events, providing a state-wide service to children from birth to 16 years of age. Within ED, our comprehensive Social Work services include specialist counselling and crisis assistance, advocacy for patient needs, education, liaison with other services and referral to community-based resources.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with a focus on providing compassionate support, expertise and guidance to our patients and their families, particularly in times of crisis. Our goal is to provide holistic care that addresses the unique needs of each child and family.
