About the role
The Legal team at Cbus work very closely with the broader business on a range of legal matters related to risk mitigation, project delivery and the provision of commercially astute legal advice. As a Senior Legal Counsel at Cbus, you’ll be part of an experienced and talented in-house Legal team with expertise delivering legal advice on superannuation, financial services regulation, insurance, mergers, advice, regulatory change litigation and investigations. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will lead complex commercial contract negotiations and implement business processes and compliance procedures on a range of complex legal matters.
This is an opportunity to enhance your career within superannuation and financial services law in a business partnering role where you will engage on a range of high-profile projects related to business strategy, member experience transformation and outsourcing. A core aspect of your role will be providing effective and solution-focussed legal advice in relation to superannuation law and APRA prudential requirements; corporations and financial services law; trustee duties; insurance; regulatory change; project and product delivery; privacy and data security; and merger/growth activity. The Senior Legal Counsel will manage junior Legal Counsel within the Legal Team. The Senior Legal Counsel will report to the Managing Legal Counsel.

About You
Your expertise in a Senior Legal role, delivering legal advice within a financial services, superannuation, insurance or litigation setting will be key to your success in this role. This entails you having extensive post qualification experience within a similar in-house setting, regulator or a well-respected law firm. Your knowledge of, and experience in, superannuation, financial services regulation, litigation or insurance law is essential.
You will hold a current solicitor practising certificate and be admitted to practice in an Australian jurisdiction. Your experience working on project-based initiatives, delivering on complex business needs across a range of regulatory compliance, investigations, litigation and/or mergers will be highly regarded coming into this role.
Personally, you will be career and learning driven and eager to be exposed to a range of project and BAU initiatives focussed on member outcomes. You will be a great communicator – both written and verbal - and value partnering with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the fund and members. This involves a strong analytical and problem-solving disposition, coupled with excellent negotiation and influencing skills when working with internal and external stakeholders. You will also possess the highest degree of ethics and integrity.
