Job Description:About the roleWe currently have a rare and exciting opportunity for a
Senior Legal Counsel to join our
Real Estate (RE) Operations team based in Brisbane on an open term, permanent basis.As part of the
Real Estate Legal Operations team, you'll collaborate closely with the QIC RE Team to address a wide variety of legal issues. Responsibilities include assessing legal risks, ensuring alignment with QIC's risk appetite, procuring necessary legal services, and setting an example in legal service provision for QIC entities.What's in it for you? - Drafting, evaluating, negotiating, and offering counsel on various legal documents pertinent to QIC RE's owned and managed assets, spanning leases, licenses, consultancy agreements, operational and marketing contracts, digital contracts and handling disputes.
- Providing guidance on the application of state and territory legislation affecting QIC's Real Estate assets, encompassing commercial and retail leasing laws, tenant issues, operational regulations, insurance, and workplace safety.
- Identifying and implementing efficiencies and contributing to the development of tools to streamline asset management procedures.
- Collaborating with QIC RE teams to develop and refine policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Supervising and reviewing work from support staff and external Legal Counsel to ensure alignment with QIC RE's business objectives.
- Conducting or coordinating educational sessions on legal topics for QIC RE colleagues.
- Working with the Head of Real Estate Legal Operations to assess the relative merits, costs and capacity constraints involved in either performing legal work internally or briefing out of legal work to external providers so that legal risks are appropriately managed in a timely but cost-effective manner.
About youYou will be passionate about property and possess the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders. You will also have:
- Comprehensive legal expertise covering various areas including leasing law and other Real Estate domains with strong attention to detail.
- Five plus years of post-qualification experience, including holding an unrestricted practicing certificate.
- Strong commercial acumen for problem-solving and evaluating situations to determine optimal commercial actions while meeting legal standards.
- Proven negotiation skills with both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to understand multiple perspectives and find mutually acceptable compromises.
- Solid grasp of legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to business activities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve favourable commercial outcomes.
