We are currently seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Legal Counsel to join our team and provide expert legal guidance to support our business operations and strategic initiatives.
You will provide legal advice and be a key governance advisor to all departments of Bank First, and to the Board and Executive Team as required. Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, you will also provide support to the company secretariat function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, contracts, terms & conditions and policies
- Provide expert legal advice on complex issues related to banking operations, transactions, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide advice on procurement contracts and processes.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide expert advice on privacy and security of critical infrastructure matters, ensuring the Bank's adherence to data protection laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement corporate governance frameworks, policies, and procedures in-line with the Members' interests and regulatory requirements.
About you
This multifaceted position is suited to a seasoned, in-house corporate legal professional with a solid understanding of banking regulations, corporate governance principles, and the ability to provide strategic Legal Counsel to Bank First. You are an Australian qualified lawyer with tertiary qualifications in law from an accredited law school, with a current practising certificate (unrestricted) and PQE of 4-7years,
You will also have:
- Strong technical legal skills with a focus on corporate law and/or banking and financial services.
- Strong experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial and procurement contracts (with IT/software contracting experience– preferred, but not required).
- Ability to understand and practically apply complex legal and regulatory principles.
- Demonstrated high level of professionalism, maturity and good judgement.
- Experience in managing and supervising more junior team members.
