Reporting to the Head of Insurance, the Senior Manager Insurance Claims and Contract Risk is accountable for the management of the Qantas Groups Insurance Claims to drive timely, cost-effective outcomes and to minimise the risk of adverse publicity. You will be responsible for leading the management of all aviation hull, passenger and third-party liability, property, motor vehicle and other Qantas claims. You will also lead the management of Qantas & Jetstar engineering claims and all insurance litigated claims including representation at hearings.
A large part of this role will be to lead the review of contract terms to identify and address risk exposures and ensure compliance with insurance requirements and Australian and international insurance law. You will negotiate complex insurance contractual reviews with Qantas stakeholders including suppliers, contractors, consultants and Qantas service contracts to customers. You will also drive the development of effective strategies for managing large claims and high-volume claims, along with driving the delivery of an effective claims handling service, including disputed and litigated claims.
What you'll bring to the role -
- Minimum 7+ years proven experience in complex claims management across multiple classes of insurance
- Bachelor of Law /Australian Legal Practitioner's Certificate/Bachelor of Business in Insurance or similar
- Advanced knowledge of contract law and contracting principles
- Excellent knowledge of insurance law, common law and laws and international conventions affecting carriers' liabilities
- Knowledge and understanding of all classes of insurance
- Substantial experience in managing, negotiation and settling complex, litigated Insurance Claims across broad classes of risk
- Significant experience in managing disputed claims and dispute resolution and experience representing at hearings and preparing materials in response to subpoena
- Strong negotiation, liaison, negotiation and interpersonal skills Excellent written, and verbal, problem solving, analytical skills and commercial judgement
- Ability to effectively manage a high-volume workload
- Ability to build constructive and effective working relationships
