Senior Manager - Performance Audit – an unexpected next step in your career

We currently have a permanent vacancy for a Senior Manager, Performance Audit. In this role you’ll be leading small teams on performance audits on the Auditor-General’s behalf. From day to day you could find yourself carrying out fieldwork in different parts of the State, meeting with people from a wide range of organisations, from frontline public servants to politicians, or briefing parliamentary committees. It’s a challenging role full of variety that gives you a unique view of the public sector in Tasmania.

For the successful candidate we will provide the training and tools for you to excel in this role including training and networking with peers from across Australasia. It’s an excellent early point or extension to your career.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties
  • Simultaneously, manages complex projects and/or undertakes components of projects within cost, time and quality parameters.
  • Contributes to the development of audit specifications, strategies, projects and plans and presents them to senior management, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals.
  • Understands and determines the range of information technology and computer systems relevant to current and future business needs. Utilises current information technology and computer systems to complete complex audit work, analyse data and prepare reports.
  • Maintains complex working papers (in accordance with relevant Policy and Standards) to record evidence of examinations.
  • Applies contemporary knowledge of public sector operations and responsibilities and audit evaluation and research methodologies to produce efficient and effective performance audits.
  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels in organisations under review.
  • Prepares draft reports for discussion with clients and prepares draft audit reports for internal review and tabling in Parliament. Manages the tabling process, including preparing and making briefings and presentations.
  • Provides line management, supervision, guidance, training and performance feedback to allocated staff in line with the Offices Performance Management Framework and contract management of experts. In addition, manage the oversight and quality control of other audits led by other team members on a case by case basis.
  • Contributes to team cohesiveness and maintains professional and collaborative relationships within the Office.

Performance is measured against Key Performance Indicators that are developed and agreed to for each role in the Office and documented in annual Performance Plans.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following; Arson and fire setting; Violent crimes and crimes against the person; Sex-related offences; Drug and alcohol related offences; Crimes involving dishonesty; Crimes involving deception; Making false declarations; Malicious damage and destruction to property; Serious traffic offences; Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice; Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power; Crimes involving Conspiracy.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
  3. Identification check.
Desirable Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification at degree level in a relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Either three years supervised/mentored practical experience or five years unsupervised practical experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Driver’s Licence.
