Regulatory Compliance is a sub function within Risk and Compliance (R&C) and is responsible for identifying, managing and mitigating Regulatory Compliance Risks and ensuring timely advice is provided to the businesses.
This is a highly demanding job within an increasingly complex business and legal and regulatory environment. The nature of the job requires the holder to be able to work independently, adapt analyse and adopt a constructive and pro-active approach.
The Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance is part of a team within Regulatory Compliance that is focused on providing Risk Stewardship over product management, which includes providing advice and challenge to the Lines of Business when designing, approving, marketing, and managing products to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and achieve good Conduct Outcomes.
This role has no direct or indirect reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the lines of businesses to maintain an effective control framework and to ensure compliance with all relevant external laws, regulations, internal policies, good market practices and industry standards, with specific focus on the management of new and ongoing products.
- Provide advisory services to the lines of businesses to ensure clear understanding of Regulatory Compliance Risk exposure when launching new and materially changed products.
- Support the Regulatory Compliance lead for product management and the Head of Regulatory Compliance to develop and maintain an effective Compliance Framework for new and ongoing product management.
- Coordinating with other Risk Stewards within R&C in providing risk stewardship over new and ongoing product management.
- Develop and maintain a good knowledge and subject matter expertise of the laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting applicable products within each line of businesses across HSBC Australia and New Zealand.
- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with stakeholders from lines of businesses, R&C and other teams in the Bank. This includes colleagues at local, Regional and Group levels.
Key Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Commercial Banking (CMB), Global Banking and Markets (GBM) and Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) product and services and experience dealing with regulatory matters in Australia and New Zealand.
- Experience in product due diligence covering end to end product governance in new products, product variations, and product reviews.
- Bachelor's degree in a Business, Finance, Law or related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the external environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to interact/advise in verbal/written communications at all levels in a professional, effective and concise manner.
- Must be flexible and adapt well to change, with the ability to work with minimal supervision. A considerable amount of autonomy is given, and initiative is required to achieve the jobholder’s objectives.
- Possess leadership skills as well as being a good team player, working in close collaboration with Regulatory Compliance colleagues and joining up with the other teams in R&C and Businesses locally.
- Act in a professional, approachable and supportive manner, fostering a cohesive and collegiate team spirit.
- Analytical skills and ability to analyse an issue, understand the second order implications and provide holistic, solution based advice.
- Interpretive skills and ability to harness regulatory requirements/regulator expectations into day to day policies, procedures and guidance for a range of audiences.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
