About the role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will design, develop, evaluate, and implement new innovative products into production, while supporting and improving existing manufactured products. Understanding the voice of the customer and strong self-motivation to contribute innovation in a strong product roadmap is critical to success in the role. They will provide project management of product development projects from ideation to commercialization with a cross functional team.
What will you be doing?
Engineering
- Lead the design and development of residential and commercial water reticulation products from ideation to production, ensuring they meet performance, quality, cost, and sustainability objectives.
- Be completely familiar with necessary standards to ensure that all products adhere to the relevant regulatory requirements and lead the effort to obtain the necessary product certifications.
- Improve design functionality and cost of existing products and support the Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Production, Supply, Quality, and R&D Departments with technical advice.
- Use Solidworks to create and modify 3D CAD models and toleranced 2D manufacturing drawings that achieve both product and manufacturing requirements.
- Create prototypes using traditional and rapid prototyping technical for validation testing to evaluate design concepts, with rapid iteration for learning and improvement.
- Use robust engineering methodology including analysis, flow simulations, DFM/DFA, FMEA and DVP to achieve high quality products.
- Maintain a high standard of engineering documentation to support the activities of the AVG business.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure successful product launches and timely solutions to product challenges.
- Assist in the development of Project Timelines and provide status reviews, resolve issues, evaluate risks and recommend contingency plans to the Project Team Leader.
- Work effectively with other members of the Engineering Team and provide direction and guidance to less experienced engineers/designers.
Does this sound like you?
- 8+years’ experience in a mechanical/product design role.
- Bachelor degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
- Strong experience in product development processes from concept creation through to production.
- Strong experience in fabrication methods (prototyping, injection moulding, metal fabrication, casting, forging, and machining processes for high volume manufacture).
- Strong experience in using 3D CAD systems (Preferably Solidworks) to assist in product design and creation of 2D production drawings.
- Knowledge of Regulatory Requirements and Australian Standards.
