About This Opportunity

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within this division for an accomplished subject matter expert Senior Mechanical Infrastructure Engineer to join the team. Reporting to the Associate Director Mechanical Infrastructure Engineer (ADMIE), the successful candidate responsibility will include planning, engineering, and overseeing mechanical asset replacement projects a part if the university asset replacement program.

The Mechanical Infrastructure Engineering Division is an integral part of the Infrastructure and Sustainability team. The team is responsible for the strategic Mechanical Infrastructure Engineering, planning and asset management to ensure the reliability and compliance of mechanical services provided to UQ facilities.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist ADMIE in strategic planning of Mechanical asset replacement program.
  • Plan and manage mechanical asset replacement projects, determine the viability, cost, potential energy savings and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure reliability of the Mechanical Infrastructure assets and compliance with all relevant legislations, NCC, Australian standards and UQ design standards.
  • Instigate troubleshooting and resolution of HVAC problems and assist with selected commissioning of new systems; in order to identify generic or systemic issues and to develop and document solutions for the guidance of University staff and consultants.
  • Coordinate with campus operations to ensure maintenance activities are carried out up to the required standards by the maintenance contractor.
  • Critically analyse and report on new work during the Project Review and Evaluation Methodology (PREM) process and, as required, provide specialist expertise on mechanical services to other Property and Facility Division business units.
  • Ensure compliance with current best practice strategies and technologies, especially those with energy efficiency improvement implications, and manage the incorporation of these practices into the work program.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders, campus operations and project delivery to provide technical support and facilitate upgrades and new project delivery including meetings, site inspections, defects rectification.
  • Provide financial management, budget forecast, reporting and record keeping as required.
  • Maintain and enhance your professional knowledge and RPEQ certification to continuously improve the University soft landing process and procedures.

This is a Full-time, Fixed-term position up to 3 years. At HEW Level 9, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $124,996.74 to $132,185.52 plus a generous super allowance of 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $1146,246.19 to $1154,657.06 per annum.

About You

Essential

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to Bachelor of engineering degree in Mechanical, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in the design, installation operation, maintenance, and commissioning of Mechanical Building services in the building and construction industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic asset management of mechanical engineering infrastructure with the ability to: forecast utilization; plan for lifecycle replacement/augmentation and determine a program of work.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of mechanical engineering systems at subject matter expert level with the ability to prepare briefs, carry out design review, construction inspections and problem solve mechanical issues that arise.
  • Extensive practical knowledge, understanding and application of relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
  • Proven financial planning and management skills with the ability to prepare, monitor and manage budgets.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Building Management Systems BMS and other mechanical Facilities Management computer systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain/present complex information, influence others, consult and coordinate across multiple groups.
  • Demonstrable experience of successful leadership to coordinate multiple stakeholders with the ability to motivate, develop and lead performance in others and be able to negotiate and influence at project level.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, to show initiative, be proactive, willing to work flexibly, prioritise work under pressure plus being able to work in a team to form strong working relationships with the P&F Sections and with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Professional membership and/or registration of an appropriate professional body/board (e.g. Engineers Australia, BPEQ).
  • Experience from consulting background.
