Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer based in our Sydney office. This position is crucial for providing technical expertise during project delivery and leading technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for key water and wastewater projects.
About the role:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for our thriving Sydney office. You will be responsible for ensuring construction delivery quality against the design intents, and support in testing, construction monitoring, and commissioning activities for major projects in the advanced water resource recovery space. As a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer, you will plan, program, coordinate and delivery studies, investigation and design works to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.
You will also develop strong working relationships with clients by delivering valuable business solutions and understanding the client’s business.
A day in the life of a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer looks like:
- Determine client requirements, conduct and manage site surveys and investigations, produce calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs provide appropriate solutions
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical engineering to meet project needs and support our delivery teams during design and construction
- Plan, program and coordinate the specific projects, as lead mechanical engineer (peer review), to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards
- Lead and manage proposal development including preparing value propositions, methodologies, fee estimates, risk reviews, arrange legal reviews, terms and conditions etc.
- Liaise with Project Managers to set and maintain budgets and ensure project managers are informed of the timing, costs and any other pertinent issues
- Ability to lead the delivery of projects, and liaise with clients and other stakeholders when necessary
- Organise tender documents, evaluate tenders and contracts
- Supervise and mentor junior staff in your field of expertise
To be successful for this role you'll present:
- Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field along with CPEng (or ability to obtain).
- A minimum of 6 to 8 years mechanical/infrastructure engineering experience with a strong preference in construction (or minimum 10 years without construction experience).
- Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater services and the delivery environment.
- Highly developed problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes that arise.
- Strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects.
- Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story.
