Form of workThe Mt Cuthbert Group is a privately owned, Australian based copper and gold producer with extensive explorations assets in NW Queensland. Mt Cuthbert Group acquired the Leichhardt Project in 2013, located at the remote Mount Cuthbert Mine, near the township of Kajabbi, North West Queensland, and situated approx. 110km north east of Mount Isa. In 2020, the group acquired the Rocklands site, approx. 17kms west of Cloncurry.
Reporting to the Mine Operations Manager, this position forms an integral part of the broader team to assist in maximising the potential of our existing Rocklands operation.
The Rocklands asset currently employs close to 240 staff working across mining and processing operations and produces copper concentrate from our significant 3 mtpa processing facility. Subject to work demands, this position may be located across the 2 projects. This year will see projects come back on line for both Rocklands and Mt Watson.
As part of a small technical team you will be exposed to many aspects of the operation and expected to work closely with many departments including surveying, engineering, mining and resource development.
As the Senior Mine Geologist you supervise and participate in the sites grade control program ensuring quality data is obtained and accurate delineation of ore and waste is carried out in all mining areas. You will be working daily with the mining operational and technical teams to ensure effective and efficient mining of ore by maximising recovery of copper metal.
To be successful you will need to have:
- 1-5 years within an open pit, hard rock or metalliferous environment.
- Practical knowledge of short term planning, resource estimation and reconciliation techniques, applied geology, open pit mining equipment and methodology.
- Experience and competency using Trimble survey equipment (desirable).
- Have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Surpac experience.
- Tertiary qualification in geology / geosciences.
- Adhere to a ‘clean shaven’ policy and be able to pass a pre-employment medical.

The role is offered as a 14/14 FIFO position from Cairns, Townsville, or Brisbane only, DIDO from Mt Isa or residential from Cloncurry, with meals and accommodation provided at the site camp.
