What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Senior Payroll Officer.
AFP Payroll Services deliver fortnightly pays to approximately 8,000 appointees using SAP. We have a complex and fast-paced operating environment, which means that there is never a dull day and always something new to learn.
In Payroll Services our work is the administration of conditions of service and entitlements for AFP appointees including processing of pay, leave and superannuation. The Payroll Specialist Group is responsible for complex payroll actions, ensuring governance and legislation is adhered to, providing mentoring and guidance to team members and creating and implementing new process for business improvements. Working in Payroll Services is an important contribution to the frontline endeavours of the AFP. You will learn more about the exciting work that the AFP does to deliver on our mission to protect Australians and Australia's interests.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
Payroll Service Senior Officers are responsible for:
  • Contributing to team outcomes, including payroll processing in accordance with strict deadlines
  • Calculating entitlements for staff, including commencements and cessations
  • Interpreting and providing advice to staff on salaries and related entitlements, in line with AFP's Enterprise Agreement and related legislation, policies and procedures
  • Undertaking general administrative duties associated with the provision of payroll and financial services
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivering quality service and professional practices and standards
  • Influencing and implementing business improvements related to operational practices, procedures and guidelines
  • Mentoring, developing and guiding team members.
  • Contributing to a positive and energetic team culture.
  • Bringing new and innovative ideas to the Payroll space; and
  • Maintaining currency in subject matter expertise through on-going professional development and learning opportunities.
Essential Requirements
  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Contemporary Payroll, Human Resources, Corporate and/or Finance experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with HR/Payroll systems
