About the role

The Senior Policy Officer supports the development and implementation of initiatives and projects, including the development of supporting procedure and policy, and drives acceptance into the business and across a number of stakeholder groups.

Key accountabilities

  • Scope, develop, manage and monitor project plans to deliver new or revised operational and organisational policy and procedures across HSBU to  underpin the successful delivery of Health and Safety Business Plans
  • Lead the review and/or development of operational and organisational policy / procedure and/or documents as required.
  • Investigate and research complex issues and prepare high level advice on a range of issues related to the review or development of operational and organisational policy or protocols.
  • Maintain the integrity, relevance and accuracy of the Field Operations Manual and other databases housing relevant documents to ensure the business is operating with the relevant legislative, policy and procedural requirements, such as the Group Leader Manual and the Business Management System.
  • Comply with WorkSafe’s OHS policy, procedures and legislative requirements, and perform your role in a manner which does not endanger your own or others safety, health or wellbeing.
  • Work predominantly with internal stakeholders, seeking to identify their needs in relation to the development and/or review of operational and organisational policies and procedures / documents and provide advice on the best options to resolve those in a timely manner.

About you

You are an experienced policy professional who has extensive experience in developing, implementing and evaluating operational policy. Your written and verbal communication skills are highly developed. You are a highly organised professional who has strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Extensive experience and ability to develop, implement and evaluate operational policy, including the interpretation of OHS legislation
  • Demonstrated client relationship management skills. 
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage, influence, collaborate and negotiate to effectively liaise and consult with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, design and implement multi-faceted systems / procedures that align activities to organisational goals.
  • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline such as OHS / business or risk management discipline.
