The Senior Policy Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department) and key government and non-government stakeholders to pursue legislative amendments related to apologies to facilitate restorative engagement initiatives. This work will include the preparation of papers and other materials for the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel and legislative, policy and program advice to support implementation of best practice restorative engagement initiatives for people who have experienced institutional child abuse. The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires capacity to exercise sound judgement, and the ability to proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including people with living experience of institutional care.
The position requires experience and knowledge in project and legal policy design or implementation, an ability to understand new subject matter quickly, demonstrate initiative, produce high-quality, timely and accurate advice and documentation to deliver long-lasting reform for people who have experienced institutional child abuse.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues based on comprehensive research.
- Develop policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Undertake data analysis and modelling to support strategic reform, budget strategy and social investment directions.
