About the role
The WA Planning & Forecasting is a division within WA Operations, focused on efficient planning and scheduling of both transmission and generation outages so that the southwest interconnected system (SWIS) can be run safely and securely at all times. The team provides critical support to the WA control room team, managing the creation of demand forecasts, supporting commissioning activities for new network equipment and generation facilities connecting to the SWIS. As our Senior Power System Engineer, you will provide support to the WA operational planning and forecasting team and other key internal and external industry stakeholders. This includes technical support and continuity to enable complex operational problems to be solved; work towards continuous improvement; support innovation; and manage issues as they arise. This role is based in Perth.
What you will be doing
- Manage Power System operation issues, advising and resolving matters among key stakeholders.
- Support and guide operational planning activities where advanced levels of technical analysis are required.
- Perform Power System security analysis, including load flow studies.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff of internal and external clients and stakeholders.
- Review commissioning activities that impact the Power System.
- Provide technical interface between AEMO operations and internal and external stakeholders addressing real-time challenges.
- Mentor junior engineers to enhance their competency in Power System operations.
What you will bring to the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Systems engineering with wealth of experience in electricity industry.
- Strong knowledge of Power Systems, including experience with generation types and characteristics, distribution or transmission network equipment types.
- Power system analysis capability including load flow or fault studies.
- Detailed knowledge of electrical Power System modelling and analysis tools (such as Powerfactory, PSCAD, Python, eTerra or PLEXOS).
- Aptitude for understanding new technologies and acquiring new skills.
- Ability to think logically and analyse and solve issues.
