Job description

Judo Bank is on the lookout for an outcome focused Product Owner who will be crucial in building our experiences, from discovery to production.

Who are we?

We're Judo Bank. A purpose-built challenger bank, built on old-fashioned values like integrity, trusted relationships and an enterprising spirit. Born out of a desire to reinvent the craft of relationship banking for the Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) market, and to challenge the status quo in a market dominated by the four major banks. We started from a PowerPoint and a bold vision to make a difference in Australian business banking. In a few short years, we have grown significantly, and with offices around the country, Judo Bank is one of the fastest growing new banks in the world. We're proud to support Australian SMEs and are a business built on trusted relationships, putting our people and customers at the centre of everything we do. Being agile and adaptive, we are purpose built to say yes, to make it easier for our customers to get the funding they need, when they need it. We pride ourselves on our personal relationships with customers, our diverse workforce and collaborative culture.

We deeply value diversity of background, experience and thought, and encourage First Nations people, LGBTIQA+ people, people from under-represented or minority backgrounds, people of all ages, and people living with disability to apply.

Now, about this role…

If you love:

  • Working with the latest SaaS products and building a sustainable bank.
  • Building a deep, data centric, knowledge of our customers
  • Creating and measuring business value
  • Solving complex problems with innovative approaches
  • Data and research
  • Working in a diverse workforce where you can bring your own capabilities, experiences and knowledge to help build the foundations of Judo

Then this just might be…

Your dream job:

  • Reporting to GM Digital Experience, you'll help to uplift and optimise the Core Banking EcoSystem, which will include the Core Bank, Payments, and all associated services.
  • You will be the voice of both the customers, The Bank and internal domain experts, ensuring that a best fit experience is delivered. Balancing stakeholder needs and keeping them informed.
  • Prioritising the backlog among competing opportunities balancing customer needs with business priorities and articulating the rationale behind decisions.
  • Solve difficult problems and find and evaluating opportunities to reduce uncertainty and ensure only the most valuable solutions. This should be done collaboratively with the team and stakeholders.
  • Collaborating across the organisation to fully understand opportunities and constraints and to share key information. Critically assessing requests from key stakeholders to ensure alignment, value and risk reduction.

Desired Skills and Experience

A little bit about you…

The skills you've picked up along the way:

  • You can align customer needs with the business value so that the technology products can meet the requirements of the stakeholders and customers.
  • Strong commercial and technical acumen.
  • Strong process knowledge of financial business products and systems.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills to articulate ideas and concepts. Ability to express proposals in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.
  • Proven ability to engage with designers, engineers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship.
  • Competent working in an omni channel environment where in-person, physical and digital experiences need to blend in a meaningful way.
  • Working with the team to define user stories, their acceptance criteria and elaborating on constraints for the rest of the team. Clearly articulating the 'why' so that trade-offs are well understood.
  • Managing the team backlog, adding, removing, and adapting items to ensure the highest priority items are next in line for build and delivery.
  • You'll have data and analytic skills and experience.

Your life pre-Judo:

  • Prior experience in Core Banking systems, Payments and associated integration and services.
  • Experience in Banking, particular business or commercial banking will be an advantage.
  • You're an experienced Product Owner with 5+ years working on technology-powered products.
  • You have a demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks.
  • Prior experience working in agile environments within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • You'll need Australian working rights.

Judo's culture sets us apart…

Our Values

  • Accountability - make the decision and own it. Do what you say.
  • Performance - make today better, stronger and faster than yesterday.
  • Teamwork - we're not a team of champions, we're a champion team.
  • Trust - the foundation of our purpose and our relationships.

We are looking for people who are:

Resilient | Positive | Inquisitive | Hungry | Adaptive | Passionate | Courageous | Decisive | Hands on

What our team members say about us:

Our people are empowered to make decisions, take ownership, and have their say. Bureaucracy is left at the door and it's all about the team. We are passionate about attracting, embracing and celebrating diverse talent. Judo is a place where everyone belongs, where our people and customers thrive because our unique differences make us collectively stronger. Our people work hard with our purpose in mind and have a lot of fun in the process - revolutionising Australian SME business banking and working in the best job they have ever had! We also recently placed first as LinkedIn's Top Company in 2023 and we are one of AFR's Best Places To Work in 2023.

Some of our Perks:

  • Additional 2 weeks leave each year
  • Yearly happiness allowance to spend on your health, family, a charity or whatever makes you happy (not your gas bill!)
  • Big life event leave
  • Home office set up allowance when you first start
  • Flexible work environment
  • And much, much more!

If this is the perfect fit for you, please reach out - we'd love to hear from you!
