About UQ & the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research Program

The First Nations Cancer & Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) Program is led by Professor Gail Garvey within the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine. The vision of the FNCWR Program is innovative and community-driven research that supports and empowers Australia’s First Nations people and communities to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.
This is a First Nations-led multidisciplinary program focused on making a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and is supported through major competitive funding including NHMRC and ARC grants such as the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE), the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), Partnership grants, and a Targeted Call for Research to build a National Network of First Nations Researchers.
The FNCWR Program brings together national and international collaborators to actively promote the translation of research knowledge into public health policy and practice. Our research uses innovative methodologies which are culturally sensitive and appropriate, and incorporate co-design principles through research projects that work closely with First Nations peoples, families, and communities and the health and allied health services that support them.

About This Opportunity
The Senior Project Officer will provide cultural liaison and Engagement for the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) Program. You will work with FNCWR team members and external stakeholders to develop networks, support our Indigenist research methodologies, and support cultural safety.
Key responsibilities will include:
Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan designed to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and key stakeholders relevant to the FNCWR program.
Undertake project-specific research and reporting activities, including development of communication and education products, to support project outcomes across the FNCWR program.
Maintain and support the Cancer Ambassador program.
Develop and deliver a cultural capability training program for the FNCWR team.
Establish connections with Indigenous communities and key internal and external stakeholders as relevant to FNCWR research programs.
Work with researchers to identify pathways to enhance the uptake of research into policy and practice.
Coordinate community engagement events, activities and programs in collaboration with the FNCWR project team, including assisting with the design and preparation of promotional materials for dissemination.
Manage appropriate reports and maintenance of internal databases, such as an Engagement Management System, in relation to FNCWR activates.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 2 years.
At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17% and market loading. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.15 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You

A degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people from a diverse range of educational and cultural backgrounds, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, along with proven experience in a health research, health service or health policy setting.
Well-developed writing skills and ability to translate complex information into clear and concise messages.
Ability to work independently and in a team to achieve strategic outcomes.
Strong organisational, time-management and record-keeping abilities, along with attention to detail.
