The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit several Senior Project Management Officers.
These are permanent positions at the APS 6 classification level. Successful applicants can work full-time or part-time hours from any of our offices, although a hybrid model of working from home and at an ABS office applies.
About the role
As a Senior Project Management Officer you will work in a project team to help achieve important outcomes through the application of effective Project Management methods. You will be aiding project outcomes as part of the project team and will support the Project Manager and Product Owners.
Responsibilities include:
- work with the project teams to establish, support and maintain project delivery practices
- provide guidance on the use of Project Management methods and Project Management tools including agile methodologies
- build Project Management and agile capability in project teams
- provide support and assistance through:
o the alignment and tracking of a project’s scope, deliverables, constraints, assumptions, outcomes and benefits
o project scheduling activities, applying and monitoring agreed project schedules
o quality planning, applying quality policies and procedures, and contributing to continuous improvements in projects
o managing and tracking of progress in a scrum team
o project governance, including identifying Project Management structure, applying project governance policies and procedures
o risk management in a project, involving planning for, reviewing risks associated with the project, and assisting in this process where required
o linking stakeholders, ideas and information at all stages in the project life cycle, assisting the project team to communicate information related to the project
o organising meetings including making arrangements, liaising with participants and developing and distributing meeting related documentation.
What we are looking for (selection criteria)
To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:
- have experience in applying Project Management methods
- have well developed communication, problem solving and organisational skills
- be able to build and maintain productive working relationships
- be able to work independently and act collaboratively as a team member (in co-located and distributed settings)
- have an ability to gain a strong understanding of ABS projects
- qualifications in relevant fields such as Prince 2, Agile, Prince2Agile, Managing Successful Programmes, Risk Management, Benefits Management is an advantage however training will be provided
- knowledge of Project Management software such as Jira, Microsoft Project or other would be highly regarded.
