How can you make a difference?

Coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Australia — accounting for over 17,000 deaths each year.

Our team of welcoming, supportive and passionate people work together to deliver our strategy and purpose to ultimately improve the heart outcomes and health inequalities of Australians.

Every individual is empowered to make an impactful difference through challenging and meaningful work.

About the role

Are you passionate about creating healthier communities and fostering active lifestyles? Join our team and make a real difference by promoting safer, more walkable neighbourhoods in South Australia and as part of the Heart Foundation's National Walking Initiative. In this exciting role, you'll work collaboratively as part of the South Australian Obesity Prevention Coalition alongside Preventive Health SA, Cancer Council South Australia, and SAHMRI, to enhance community engagement and improve the health and wellbeing of South Australians. If you're driven to support collaborative action on obesity prevention through active transport and healthy built and natural environments and contribute to transformative health initiatives, we want to hear from you!:

In this role you will:

  • Advance program activities, ensuring the Heart Foundation remains a leader in active transport and healthy built environments in South Australia and nationally.
  • Collaborate to develop a strategy engaging stakeholders to enhance active transport, environments, and walkability in South Australia, supporting the National Walking Initiative.
  • Assist local governments and practitioners in identifying opportunities and overcoming barriers to improve pedestrian connectivity and support walking as a viable travel option.
  • Develop tools to collect data and measure the impact of program activities on community engagement in South Australia.
  • Collaborate on advocacy priorities for active transport and built environments at state and national levels.
  • Represent the Heart Foundation in partnerships, state networks, committees, and media engagements.
  • Support advocacy for local active transport and environment priorities aligned with Heart Foundation goals and in partnership with the South Australian Obesity Prevention Coalition partner organisations.
  • Partner with the South Australian Obesity Prevention Coalition to support collaborative obesity prevention efforts.
  • Build stakeholder relationships to foster positive changes in professional practice.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, online content, and presentations to promote key initiatives, including assisting with managing the Healthy Active by Design website and newsletter.
  • Present the Heart Foundation's work at forums, webinars, conferences, and events.
  • Monitor emerging research and media coverage to inform program communications, advocacy, and policy development.

    Let's talk about you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in planning, engineering, urban design, or a related field
  • Experience working with active transport or urban planning and design principles for healthy built and natural environments.
  • Demonstrated program and project planning and management, with a focus on measurable results.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects to a common goal.
  • Ability to interpret data and use it to develop reports, with a focus on key insights and opportunities for continual improvement of projects or programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing and presenting reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding and or appreciation of the importance of cardiovascular health as a public health challenge.

    Why work with us?

Our team believe in our purpose: we make a difference every day through meaningful work. We promote Active Living and support our employees to have healthy work life balance.
