Job description

The Department of Veterans' Affairs, Financial Operations Directorate is looking for a Senior Purchase Card Officer to continue to support changes and improvements in the way we operate. A key change is the implementation of a new expense management and Financial Management Information System.

Our ideal applicants will have proven experience in Travel and Purchase Card management, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as is an excellent understanding of Whole of Australian Government Travel Policies and experience using and maintaining financial systems (e.g. TM1, Expense8 or similar Travel and Expense Management Systems) and meticulous attention to detail. You will be responsive in high pressure and changing environments and have the ability to work independently and apply strategic thinking for decision making. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, be innovative, have a continuous improvement mindset and be able to implement changes.
The key duties of the position include
  • Provide high customer service and respond to inquiries on Travel and Purchase Card matters and provide factual advice in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical knowledge in Travel and Purchase Card management.
  • Assist with general inquiries on Travel, Expense8 and Health LifeStyle benefit.
  • Manage prioritisation of own workloads, checking accuracy of information and work, ensuring quality customer service and advice.
  • Utilise financial analysis tools, systems, to capture, research, analyse and reconcile data.
  • Contribute to the implementation and improvement of processes and contribute to workplace innovation
  • Preparation and approval of end of month processes including but not limited to:
    • reconciliations,
    • journals, and
    • executive and management reporting.
