The Role:
Join our Sydney team as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for research and development (R&D) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) tasks, with a specific focus on heavy mobile plant and vehicle manufacturing.
As a key contributor, you will play a vital role in the successful design and delivery of cutting-edge electrified vehicle products for the construction, mining, government, and consumer markets.
Key responsibilities :
- Design plant and equipment across areas from prototype development to manufacturing.
- Engage with management to strategise and evaluate resource utilisation, aiming for successful project outcomes.
- Lead projects and provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Contribute specification development and design process.
- Validate product designs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Develop and maintain a reliable relationship with suppliers and fabricators to adhere to timelines and achieve the required build quality.
- Coordinate prototype builds, testing regimes, and manage product development life cycles.
Essential:
- 8+ years’ relevant experience, with a focus on product development/life cycle in the heavy vehicle or automotive industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience leading teams to successful outcomes.
- Familiarity with the vehicle or plant product development life cycle, including experience with design for manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of Australian automotive compliance standards and legislation.
- Skilled in using CAD software and experience with FEA simulations.
Desirable:
- Good understanding of electric drivetrain design for mobile plant.
- Familiarity with controller programming and automotive electrical system design.
- Proficiency in using Solidworks.
- Working towards, or achieved, Chartered Professional Engineer status with Engineers Australia.
