Overview:
In the course of fulfilling the role, the Associate Nurse Unit Manager role provides specific support to the Advanced Nurse Unit Manager role in the leadership of nurses in the unit/ward. In particular the rostering role provides support by ensuring nursing resources within the withdrawal services are maintained at optimal performance and staffing levels by managing the human resources of the withdrawal unit
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager is accountable for own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
Employees in this role will undertake a portfolio within which they will:
- Promote continuity and consistency of care in collaboration with other AN/MUM and the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent;
- Assist the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent in the implementation of practice changes; and
- Assist the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent in undertaking ward/unit/service management responsibilities, eg. Performance management processes, recruitment, staffing, leave management, rostering, work allocation and attendance management; financial and supplies planning and monitoring.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving ‘Unsupervised Contact with Vulnerable Groups’ is required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- 24-hour, 7-day rotating roster
- Expectation that the Associate Nurse will be available and rostered to backfill the Advanced Nurse Unit Manager role as required,
- The position is located within Withdrawal Services however the Associate Nurse may be required to work within other locations of the DASSA and or SA Health as required.
- A current South Australian driver’s licence and willing to drive is highly desirable.
- Meet immunisation requirements as outlined by the Immunisation for Health Care Workers in South Australia Policy Directive. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met.
