Overview:
The Clinical Nurse provides nursing and/or midwifery services within a specialist Alcohol and Other Drug Service by delivering comprehensive nursing care, covering assessment, counselling, treatment and referral of people with drug related problems, with assistance to their family and significant others.
Accepts accountability for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
The Clinical Nurse role at this level continues to be predominantly clinical in nature; however, employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities should be negotiated with each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving ‘Unsupervised Contact with Vulnerable Groups’ is required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- 24-hour, 7 day rotating roster
- May work a combination of 8 or 10 hours shifts.
- Expectation that the Clinical Nurse will be available and rostered to backfill the Associate Clinical Services Coordinator role as required,
- The position is located within Withdrawal Services however the Clinical Nurse may be required to work within other locations of the DASSA and or SA Health as required.
- A current South Australian driver’s licence and willing to drive is highly desirable.
- Meet immunisation requirements as outlined by the Immunisation for Health Care Workers in South Australia Policy Directive. There may be ongoing immunisation requirements that must be met.
