About the role
This role provides a unique opportunity for the right candidate to direct a research program in Childhood Cancer epidemiology, particularly in regard to the strategic development and operation of the Australian Childhood Cancer Registry (ACCR).
The Senior Manager of Childhood Cancer Research will actively seek and maintain national and international collaborative research partnerships that enhance the capacity and scope of the Childhood Cancer research program at CCQ, to place the ACCR at the forefront of population-based epidemiological research into Childhood Cancer. This role is a Fixed-Term, Full-time (5 days per week) role for 2 years.
Key duties will include:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Childhood Cancer Research Team including people, reporting, all other operational matters and assisting with budget development.
- Support the Viertel Cancer Research Centre’s financial viability through the development and submission of external research grant applications.
- Develop and lead research using data from the ACCR under the supervision of the Director of Research.
- Ensure the peer-reviewed publication of results in quality national and international scientific journals, and the production of scientific reports on Childhood Cancer epidemiology.
- Provide statistical and methodological support for the Cancer Research Centre as required.
To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications, experiences, knowledge, and skills:
Essential
- A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role.
- Tertiary qualifications with a major in statistics.
- Honours degree or higher with a major in statistics or public health, or an additional five years' experience in a similar role, is highly desired.
- Previous experience working in cancer epidemiology is highly desired.
Essential
- High level of knowledge of contemporary statistical methods for descriptive and analytical epidemiology, such as the analysis of cohort studies and survival analyses.
- Strong computer skills in relevant statistical computer packages, particularly Stata.
- Demonstrated high order interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in using and managing large data sets and complex relational databases.
