It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.The roleThe Senior Social Responsibility Advisor will effectively lead onsite implementation of Social Responsibility (SR) activities including all health, safety, human and operational financial resources and management systems relevant to the SR discipline, including support for the management of contractors as necessary.The position will report to the Newmont Australia SR Superintendent, will assume supervisory responsibility for onsite SR team members, and will support a pool of Indigenous Trainees. The Senior Advisor will work collaboratively with the SR Superintendent and Sustainability & External Relations (S&ER) Manager, and will actively participate in and contribute to the wider activities of the Newmont Tanami Operations' S&ER Department.Key dutiesThe Senior Social Responsibility Advisor will participate in the development and lead the implementation of programs/initiatives and systems within the area of Social Responsibility in Tanami’s S&ER Department, including but not limited to those addressing:
- Consolidated Mining Agreement, related land access agreement(s) and Tanami Desert Ten Year Plan;
- Stakeholder Relationship Management;
- Social Baseline and Impact Assessment;
- Indigenous employment / training programs and pathway;
- Indigenous enterprise, business and local procurement support;
- Community investment and development;
- Cultural / heritage protection and management;
- Internal and external education and awareness;
- Reporting and assurance; and
- External communications.
- Tertiary qualification in relevant social science, humanities, community development, Social Responsibility in mining, Indigenous Australian cultural studies or related discipline
- Demonstrated practical mining and/or relevant industry experience
- Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring a team
- Experience working with remote Indigenous communities and Aboriginal cultural competence highly advantageous
- Sensitivity to and respect for communities and stakeholders
- Strong alignment of personal values to Newmont Values
- Proven consultation, facilitation and interpersonal skills
- Good communication, report writing and effective presentation skills
- Current manual transmission Driver’s Licence
