About the role:
This job involves working daily with patients who are distressed, disadvantaged, and vulnerable, and there will be a strong focus on looking at ways to improve access and engagement with Hunter Integrated Pain Service (HIPS) as well as linking into community support. This role involves working collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary pain team. This includes administrative staff, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, and clinical psychologists. The successful applicant will be involved in facilitating outpatient group sessions as well as individual appointments. These could be in person or over telehealth.
The successful applicant will report directly to the director of HIPS. In their discipline line, the head of social work at John Hunter Hospital will support them at a professional level. They will receive a comprehensive orientation package with ongoing support from the HIPS team tailored to their level of knowledge and experience. At HIPS there is equitable access to continuing education and professional development opportunities.
Note: Providing counselling/psychological therapies is not a primary focus of this role.

HIPS is a tertiary multidisciplinary Pain Service located on the John Hunter Hospital campus in the beautiful city of Newcastle. HIPS prides itself on a broad biopsychosocial ‘whole person’ approach to chronic pain management. The team is friendly, respectful, and passionate about supporting patients to recover from chronic pain, with a strong focus on self-management.

Requirements:
- Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- To be eligible for a level 3 position you must have a minimum of 3 years full-time post-graduate clinical experience.
