We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solution Architect at Perth Office CBD on a Permanent Full-Time basis.


About this role

As the Senior Solution Architect, you will be primarily accountable for directing external service providers in the development of high-level and detailed technical designs for solutions and performing quality assurance on their outputs. This will be achieved by utilising subject matter expertise and knowledge of application and infrastructure technology components used in Western Power.

This position possesses the expertise and experience to ensure that high-level and detailed technical designs satisfy business expectations and comply with Western Power's ICT standards. The role also provides ongoing guidance to external and internal developers and configuration specialists during delivery.

The Solution Architect technical specialist areas in Western Power include: Business, Operational Technology, Data Warehouse, Infrastructure, Metering and Cyber Security Solution Architects.

  • Direct the translation of requirements by external service providers into high-level and detailed solution designs that satisfy business expectations and ICT standards and maximise return on Western Power's portfolio of investments
  • Oversee the development of design documentation for external and internal developers and configuration specialists, provide ongoing guidance to support delivery and perform quality assurance on outputs
  • Review and provide quality assurance of Solution Architecture, designs and implementations carried out by external service providers
  • Monitor and report on the progress of programs and projects against solution designs and quality of deliverables, drive remedial actions and escalate issues where necessary
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Western Power and external service providers to manage the design of solutions for complex problems within the parameters of business need and availability of budget and skills
  • Work effectively with external and internal suppliers to deliver business outcomes
  • Assist in the maintenance of all levels of the cyber security or the ICT architecture for the organisation, collaborating with external and internal service providers, and the business
  • Provide input to the strategic direction of technology investments to assist in the development of the enterprise architecture, maximise the return on investment and reduce risk
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the Function through innovation and the implementation of good practice applicable to the business needs, plus contribute to a positive environment that encourages individual development and continuous improvement


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate qualifications in Computer Science, Systems Analysis, or other related study, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive and broad with a minimum of eight (8) or more years of current experience as a Solution / Project, Business or Data Architect and / or possess significant experience in designing and maintaining Solution Architecture within a large, distributed ICT organisation Competencies relevant to the Solution Architect specialisms:

Business Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in designing enterprise applications, corporate BI reporting toolsets and record / document / content / knowledge management technologies

Operational Technology Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in designing SCADA Master Stations, cyber-security systems, related communication systems and other operational, real-time systems

Data Warehouse Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in technical disciplines of data warehousing, Business Intelligence and reporting, with strong technical expertise in database technologies, ETL and BI tools

- Knowledge of relational databases, data warehousing principles and design, the various architectures and methodologies including metadata, performance management, data quality, schema development and mart vs. warehouse issues; including

- knowledge of decision support methodology and industry best practice

Infrastructure Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in designing ICT infrastructure systems, both data centre back-end and desktop environments, including middleware infrastructure, network infrastructure, storage systems and data centre operations

Metering Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing advanced metering solutions, related cyber-security systems and communication systems.

Cyber Security Solution Architect:

- Demonstrated experience in cyber-security related architecture in large organisations, with complex, multi-application and varied infrastructure landscapes.

  • Extensive knowledge of security architecture and design patterns.
  • Strong experience of Solution Architecture in large organisations, with complex, multi-application and varied infrastructure landscapes
  • Extensive experience of managing and working with external service providers in the design and delivery of complex solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of general architectural and design patterns
  • Strong knowledge of development and project delivery methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of strategy, architecture, service delivery and direction
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, processes, techniques and tools
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and solution identification skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
  • Ability to translate business needs into requirements for Solution Architecture
  • Strong customer focus background with commercial awareness and strategic thinking capability
  • Ability to manage relationships across the organisation at multiple levels
