The Role
As a Senior Strategic Planning Officer, you'll have a critical role in developing and executing Strategic Planning projects. Your expertise in Strategic Planning will enable you to work collaboratively with all internal staff and elected members while liaising with a diverse range of external stakeholders. These stakeholders include ratepayers, local community groups, the WA Local Government Association, solicitors, the Department of Planning, other government departments, other councils, consultants, and developers to deliver effective Strategic Planning projects that meet the needs of all stakeholders.
We currently have an opportunity for two (2) Senior Strategic Planning Officers to join our Strategic Planning Team on a permanent full-time basis.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of strategic and/or statutory Town Planning in a Local Government environment
- Previous experience in town planning and overseeing consultants, contracts administration and providing support to consultant in the delivery of planning projects
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to negotiate at high levels
- Ability to exercise decision-making and judgement in a logical, lawful and accountable manner
- Proven ability to resolve contentious planning issues relation to Strategic Planning projects
- Demonstrated skills in formulating strategy/policy, assessing and reporting on Strategic Planning initiatives, including research analysis and investigative skills
- Proven ability to manage projects, meet timeframes, prioritise, be self-motivated, responsible and accountable.
- Tertiary level qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline; membership of or eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
