Eligibility: Open to EveryoneThe Senior Sustainable Land Management Officer is responsible for the day to day management, reporting and review of the SAAL Landscape Board’s Sustainable Agriculture program, Building Pastoral Sustainability. The program aligns with the board’s Climate Resilient Region, Sustainable Land Management and People and Partnerships priorities in its Regional Landscape Plan. It will work closely with a wide range of agricultural stakeholders, government funding bodies, industry, contractors and agencies to integrate and implement programs, services and projects that supports sustainable production across the SA Rangelands.The role will provide strategic oversight and policy support to existing regional resources and will work with industry and the pastoral community to identify and develop new tools and resources that facilitate Sustainable Land Management practices and increase the capacity of production systems to adapt to significant changes in climate and market demands. The role will lead a small team to achieve these outcomes and will be expected to keep abreast of new and emerging trends, opportunities and technologies which include carbon, stewardship and nature positive initiatives.Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, including verbal, written and public speaking with a proven ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with stakeholders
- Experienced in all aspects of project management including planning, contract management, procurement, risk management and project evaluation.
- Ability to lead and empower a small team to take initiative and facilitate the successful completion of work plans and project outcomes effectively and efficiently.
- Knowledge of the rangelands environment, land systems and native vegetation and relevant legislations and policies relating to their management
- Ability to thoroughly research and write policies and papers that convey complex technical information in a way that the reader will easily understand, with clear recommendations
- Ability to engage positively with ambiguous situations and demonstrate flexibility in thinking
- Contemporary knowledge of Land Management principles and practices in the rangelands with exposure to natural capital and carbon accounting principles
- Working knowledge of environmental offsets and stewardship practices
