* VPS Grade 5: $106,534 - $128,897 plus superannuation.
About Us:
The Finance Branch leads the department's efforts to comply with government and legislative financial management responsibilities while driving a culture of strategic financial management across the department. It is responsible for the department's financial and budgetary policies and processes, including statutory reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxation compliance, government reporting (including Standing Directions), and facilitation of the annual budget process.
About the Role:
The Senior Taxation Officer is responsible for the provision of expert knowledge to clients on both technical and accounting matters in relation to taxation, and annual Workcover expense, executing tasks with accuracy and within externally imposed timeframes.
The role monitors and manages changes to taxation law, providing advice and analysis in the context of the Department and influencing improvements to practice and process.
Some of your duties will include:
* Preparing and lodging with the Australian Taxation Office the Department's monthly Goods and Services Tax Business Activity Statement.
* Managing and improving internal system capable of assisting complex reviews of departmental transactions as part of an on-going quality assurance program to confirm appropriate transactions tax treatment.
* Coordinating and preparing quarterly Fringe Benefits Tax calculations and the annual Fringe Benefits Tax return, Congestion levy return and the monthly Payroll Tax return to ensure timely and accurate data is submitted to the relevant taxing authorities.

About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
* Working knowledge of government financial systems and applications or financial controls and compliance. Experience with Figtree Fleet Management System and Fringe Benefits Tax One Source is desirable.
* Detailed knowledge of relevant Federal and State taxation law including Goods and Services Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax, pay as you go and Payroll Tax as it applies to Victorian Government Agencies
* Knowledge and the ability to apply the Australian Accounting Standards, Financial Management Act 1994 and Standing Directions 2018.
Qualifications:
* An appropriate tertiary qualification with a major in Accounting and eligibility for membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia.
