As the successful applicant, you will support the delivery of science-based outcomes for a project entitled "Enhanced research capability for early detection and smart surveillance for emergency animal diseases (EADs)". This project focuses on the development of novel molecular based surveillance and diagnostic tools that will provide a safe, accurate and rapid approach to identify and characterise Brucella species using environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches or point of care (POC) assays.
The successful candidate will be based at AgriBio, Bundoora, and will work as part of a world-class multidisciplinary program of Agriculture Victoria Research and particularly within the Microbial Sciences, Pests and Diseases unit.
The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of two teams, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the branch.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent qualification; PhD qualification or equivalent would be an advantage and relevant experience is essential.
- Experience in traditional microbial diagnostic techniques would be beneficial.
- Experience on multiple platforms such as Illumina and Oxford Nanopore technology would be advantageous.
- Experience with point of care diagnostics such as LAMP, dipstick tests or lateral flow assays would be beneficial and processing high volume samples for mosquito screening assays
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2025. The work location for this position is Bundoora with hybrid work arrangements available.
