Position Vacancy - Service Leader 

We are currently recruiting a Service Leader who can support Maitland and surrounding areas. 

About the Role:

As a Service Leader with Kids Out West, you'll make a difference in the lives of children and young people who are in Out of Home care. You'll provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to support a team of Therapeutic Youth Workers in providing effective, flexible and high quality care for kids and young people with high and complex needs, in accordance with their case and behavioural plans. 

This is a Monday- Friday position, working from our Maitland office. 

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the daily operations of Kids Out West homes, ensuring that the children and young people in our care are well looked after in accordance with regulated standards. 
  • Coordinate the Kids Out West rosters in accordance with our ever changing staffing requirements.
  • Support and mentor Therapeutic Youth Workers in providing therapeutic and positive out of home care support, assisting them with keeping accurate records, files and reporting in a consistent and clear manner that meet all legislative requirements.
  • Work within a permanency planning framework for all children in care, creating a therapeutic social environment in the home. 
  • Undertake household financial responsibilities, managing the household budgets in line with Kids Out West policy. 
  • Participating in the recruitment and onboarding of new Therapeutic Youth Workers.
  • Participate in the training and development of all Therapeutic Youth Workers, including regular facilitation of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training. 
  • Participate in the on-call roster, providing after hours support to Therapeutic Youth Workers.

Kids Out West is an innovative and regionally based preferred service provider for the Department of Communities and Justice and various Non Government Organisations. We specialise in providing flexible service delivery to meet the unique and challenging needs of rural and remote communities in New South Wales.

We are based in Maitland NSW, and cover a large area across the Central and Far West, Riverina, Newcastle/Hunter, Central Coast, New England, Sydney and the Mid North Coast and Western regions.

About You:

  • You're passionate about working with vulnerable children, and you want to help make a positive change in their lives. 
  • You're a great problem solver, and you've got excellent conflict resolution skills. 
  • You might have experience leading a team previously, or you’re an experienced Therapeutic Youth Worker yourself and you’re ready to support a team in getting to operate to your high standard.  
  • You may have completed Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training’s Train the Trainer course. If not, you’re ready and willing to undertake this as part of your professional development.
  • You may have completed Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training. If not, you’re prepared to complete this three day course with us prior to accepting your offer. 
  • You're keen on travelling locally and across NSW.
  • You're able to participate in an on-call roster as required. Of course, any on-call work is paid accordingly. 
  • You've done the groundwork - you hold a Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work / Community Services and/or similar qualification.  You've got experience in service delivery with children or young people with complex needs or from a trauma background.
  • You've got great written and oral communication skills, including report writing skills, liaising with multidisciplinary teams and other professionals.
  • You can manage time and workflow effectively ensuring competing priorities can be met each week.
  • You've got a current unrestricted drivers licence, with a satisfactory driving record (Checks are completed). Your car is reliable and has comprehensive insurance. Please note that provisional licences are not permitted.
  • You hold a current First Aid certificate (HLTAID003 or HLTAID011) & CPR (HLTAID001 or HLTAID009) Certificate/s
  • You hold a current Working with Children's Check for Paid Employment. This role will require you to be entered into the Residential Care Workers Register managed by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.  It is important for you to consent to be on the Register to be employed in this sector.
  • You have a current National Criminal History Check (issued within last 6 months)
