We are looking for a skilled Sheetmetal Trades Worker to join our team. As a Sheetmetal Trades Worker, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing sheet metal products according to blueprints, drawings, and specifications. You will work with various metals, including stainless steel, galvanized iron, mild steel, aluminum, and copper. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Your Responsibilities
1. Blueprint Analysis
- Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job, material, and equipment requirements.
2. Material Selection
- Select appropriate metal stock (stainless steel mild steel, and aluminum.
- Verify that the sizes, gauges, and other dimensions of metal stock are against specifications.
3. Marking Out
- Use templates, gauges, and other measuring instruments to mark out metal stock with reference points and lines.
4.Cutting
- Cut metal stock along guidelines using hand and power shears, guillotines, and drills.
5. Shaping and Forming
- Shape and form cut metal stock into products using folding and bending machines, rollers, presses, and hammers.
6. Assembly
- Fit and assemble components into final products by welding, riveting, soldering, brazing, and other joining methods.
7. Finishing
- Finish products by polishing, filing, sanding, and cleaning assembled products.
8. Repair
- Repair damaged sheet metal products and components as needed.
9. Specialization (Optional)
- Fabrication, on-site assembly, and installation of sheet metal products.
- Production of sheet metal components requiring advanced drawing and calculating skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Sheetmetal Trades Worker or similar role.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools for cutting, shaping, and assembling metal components.
- Understanding of different types of metals and their properties.
- Accurate use of measuring instruments.
- Excellent welding, riveting, soldering, and brazing skills.
- Attention to detail and precision in work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under deadlines.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or apprenticeship in sheet metal work or a related field.
- Experience in producing sheet metal components.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position with occasional overtime as required.
- Work may involve exposure to various weather conditions for on-site assembly and installation.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
