The Southern Seawater Alliance (SSWA) operates and maintains the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant (SSDP) located 130km south of Perth, between Binningup and Myalup beaches. This award-winning facility produces up to 100GL of drinking water per annum, representing over 30% of Perth’s demand. What the role will involve:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for operating the Plant safely and efficiently, including maintenance duties within your training competence. The role includes monitoring, measuring, and recording process data and escalating any problems which cannot be remedied at your level.
Essential Requirements & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by reporting and acting on all hazards, keeping the plant in a clean and tidy condition and supporting all safety initiatives.
- Control room operations requiring complex process understanding.
- Previous experience in autonomous operating of fixed plant in water or other complex process industry.
- Excellent reporting and fault-finding skills.
- Flexibility to assist maintenance personnel during both planned and unplanned outages.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures.
- Sportsperson’s roster as well as availability duties and willingness to cover additional shifts as required.
- Mechanical aptitude sought.
- Routine Plant activities such as handling of chemicals and membrane integrity testing.
- Any other duties as reasonably requested.

Skills and Experience:
- Trade certificate advantageous but not required.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills.
- Understanding of safety requirements in an operating plant including hazard identification and basic risk assessment.
- DCS or SCADA control systems experience.
- A class licences.
