The Fish Factory is excited to announce a job opportunity for a Short-order Cook to join our team. Working on a full-time basis, this role will see you join an established team of kitchen and front of house service personnel, supervised by the kitchen supervisor, and overseen by the General Manager – Retail. This role includes on the job training and genuine opportunities for advancement and career development. Your role
Working a full-time roster over five days; 45 hours (less breaks), including one weekend shift, the successful candidate will have previous grill and fryer experience. The role is best suited to someone that thrives in a fast-paced, vibrant and diverse team environment. Reporting into the kitchen supervisor, you will assist with food preparation along with some cooking duties on the fryer and grill. Main duties of a Short Order Cook include:
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Cooking and serving of customer meals to order.
- Daily food preparation, including salad preparation, plating & packing orders.
- Cleaning and maintenance of cooking and food preparation areas.
- Setup or shutdown of kitchen.
- Assistance with daily stock take and rotation of stock for FIFO purposes.
- General kitchen duties where required.
About You
The successful candidate will have a passion for food and be a team player! You will be an excellent communicator and can work efficiently & autonomously. Essential skills for the opportunity include:
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with kitchen and food prep equipment.
- Excellent organisational skills to ensure customers are served in a timely manner.
- Knowledge, qualification and/or proven application of training in food safety & hygiene standards.
- Proven experience in a commercial cooking role with ability to follow directions well.
- Ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude.
- Champion of a safe working environment.
- Excellent personal hygiene and presentation.
- Strong work ethic.
Desirable, but not necessary:
- 2yrs + Commercial kitchen experience
- Qualification in commercial cookery
