This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate engineer looking to make your mark in Train Detection and Axle Counter technologies. This role, under the mentor ship of senior signalling engineers, will focus on investigating new technologies and participate in R&D activities related to current and emerging Axle Counter technologies.
Through this role, you will take advantage of the technological changes which will create real monetary savings both from a design / installation and maintenance perspective for V/Line and other rail operators in the industry.
About the role
The role of the Signal Engineer Axle Counter Systems is to be the reference point for technical and engineering development and support for Axle Counter technologies to ensure Network Maintenance activities are in accordance with train running, rail and safety requirements.
The role will be responsible for developing cost effective strategies in the field of Axle Counter train detection system infrastructure within the NDAM Division that ensure a safer interface for train operations.
Key Accountability include:
- Provide the technical and engineering expertise for the investigation and analysis of identified Axle Counter Systems issues.
- Define engineering requirements for railway signalling solutions.
- Participate in defining interfaces between engineering disciplines as well as between signalling systems and components.
- Participate in the integration of signalling systems, components, and design solutions.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of signals and communications infrastructure maintenance and construction standards, technical maintenance plans, service schedules and inspection and test plans.
- Undertake Type Approval submissions of signalling related equipment / systems.
About you
Holding a Diploma in Railway Signalling or equivalent, you are passionate about signalling and communication technologies. You have a tertiary qualificationinElectro-Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering appropriate for corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
You are motivated by the opportunity to participate in R&D activities and focus on emerging technologies. You are seeking an opportunity to work with a mentor and become an SME in Axle Counter and Train Detection Systems.
Prior experience in Railway signalling including knowledge and understanding of signalling network technical and engineering standards, principles, system specifications and practices would be ideal.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Diploma in Railway Signalling (mandatory)
- Tertiary qualification in Electro-Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
- 3+ years real world experience in Railway Signalling ideally within Victoria.
- Genuine passion and interest in emerging railway signalling technologies.
The successful candidate will need to travel on-site from time to time across the rail network in order to conduct testing and analysis of Axle Counter installations.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with 4-weeks annual leave, superannuation, and free myki for metro & regional travel.
Salary for this role will be dependant on skills and experience and commence from $115,000 inclusive of superannuation.
