The Sovereign Submarine Program Delivery (SSPD) Branch of the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) seeks an EL 1 Site Nuclear Safety Assurance Manager to join our Adelaide team responsible for delivering Australia's nuclear powered submarines. This role is accountable for assuring shipyard Nuclear Safety, and exposure assurance including submarines in construction and on-board submarines in the control of the shipbuilder.
The Site Nuclear Safety Assurance Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of ASA Nuclear Safety Assurance policies and procedures within the shipyard. In this role you will solve complex problems and issues and may perform sensitive projects that impact strategic, political and operational outcomes.
Responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships this role will identify stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies to achieve desired outcomes.
This is a leadership role requiring commitment toward ongoing self-improvement and professional development of the Nuclear Safety Assurance team.
About our Team
Within the ASA, SSPD is accountable for identifying the most appropriate program delivery model and construction methodology, defining infrastructure requirements, analysing and modelling existing Australian industry and workforce capability and capacity and undertaking cost estimation for acquiring and sustaining the future Nuclear Powered Submarine fleet, in consultation with our AUKUS partners. SSPD consists of the following directorates: Business and Operations, Build, Testand Evaluation, Commercial Management, Engineering and Shipyard Infrastructure.
As part of the Build, Test and Evaluation Directorate, the Safety Assurance Team provides oversight and assurance of the shipbuilder's WHSE and Nuclear Safety programs, providing expert advice on Nuclear Safety cases, assurance of Nuclear Safety plans and assurance against the shipbuilder's environment management plan for the nuclear powered submarine construction yard.

The ideal candidate for this role will have the highly desirable skills and experience for this role include:
- Bachelor of Science (Nuclear and Technology) and have in-depth knowledge of nuclear site safety.
- Highly developed knowledge of WHS and Nuclear Safety legislation, regulations, and policies
- Extensive experience developing and/or reviewing safety cases
- Experience developing or assuring Nuclear Safety case material
- Extensive WHS management or assurance experience
- Experience in conducting or assuring nuclear radiation monitoring programs.
- ISO19011 Qualified Auditor
- Workplace Competency Assessor
- General Radiation Safety Officer Training (ANSTO)
- Defence Ionising Radiation Protection Officer Course or equivalent
