Sleep Scientist – Grade 1, Full Time

80 hours per fortnight to share

Option for two or more staff to cover hours in a part time arrangement

The position, on a rotating roster (Day/Evening/Night shifts), will involve patient preparation prior to overnight sleep studies, nasal continuous positive airway pressure implementation and titration, overnight study monitoring and aspects of sleep study analysis. The successful applicant will have a science degree with related majors, have excellent communication skills, work collaboratively, and demonstrate initiative and confidence when working in a clinical setting.

The Sleep Disorders Unit at Footscray Hospital is NATA Accredited, and performs a variety of in-laboratory and home based PSG and treatment studies. The Unit performs approximately 2,000 sleep studies per annum, including diagnostic, treatment (CPAP/Bi Pap/Oxygen) and split studies, with TCO2 monitoring if required. The unit also provides support to patients with CPAP clinics, APAP trials and light therapy devices.

Western Health is continually growing due to being in the growth corridor of Melbourne. Plans are under way with a new Footscray Hospital being built in 2025, where our unit is increasing in size. This means there is a high opportunity to grow professionally within the Sleep Disorders Unit.

Whilst this position maintains a strong clinical focus, the Grade 1 scientist will also support quality system activities in line with NATA/ASA Accreditation Standards and be involved in specific set of delegated portfolios. The Grade 1Sleep Scientist will be expected to demonstrate an analytical approach to troubleshooting and be highly organised.

To be Successful in this Role you:

Essential:

• Will possess a relevant science degree (e.g., biomedical science)
• Need to maintain the highest skill set in terms of complex and specialised testing procedures.
• Have well developed interpersonal skills, including effective written and verbal communication skills
• Have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Will support the operational needs of the scientific units, by performing a variety of shifts (covering days, evenings, nights) as per roster

Desired:

• Have clinical experience in sleep disorders testing
• Have leadership capacity (Based on experience)
• Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) experience
