Prince of Wales Hospital is a 440 bed tertiary referral facility with specialties unique to this campus such as spinal cord injuries and interventional neuroradiology. A new Acute Service Building will be opening early 2023 with state of the art modern facilities aimed at providing an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes. It includes an expanded Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units, a Community Management Centre, and replacement of multiple existing inpatient wards with contemporary facilities. There will also be new research, education and training spaces, including additional spaces funded by UNSW Sydney, to enable clinical innovation and research, biomedical engineering, and clinical translational research laboratories collocated directly alongside clinical staff providing acute healthcare services.
The hospital is accessible via a light rail service which stops right outside the main entrance, along with a range of bus services. This position is based in the Acute Services Team and will primarily be based in the Emergency Department in a job share capacity. There is an expectation that coverage across the team's clinical areas will be required, working in Critical care and Chronic settings.
What You'll Be Doing

Plan, coordinate, and implement in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge within a social work specialty area in order to provide high quality counselling, advocacy and therapeutic care to the patients, their carers and families of the facility consistent with NSW Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

- Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and eligibility for membership of the AASW
- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in relevant specialty area with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
- Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise your own and team work requirements effectively within agreed time frames
- Demonstrated experience in providing crisis interventions and the ability to participate in the After Hours Crisis On-Call Social Work Service working across a seven day service.
