ACAP, The Australian College of Applied Professions, is Australia's leading independent provider of tertiary education, delivering accredited courses in psychology, counselling, coaching, criminology, social work, law, and business management and leadership (MBA).  

Based at either our Sydney CBD or Melbourne CBD Campus is the Part Time (0.50) opportunity for an experienced and qualified Social Worker to provide support and assistance to students facing social, emotional or psychological challenges. 

Responsibilities include:  

  • Provide counselling to students on matters such as pastoral care issues including: living skills, cultural adjustment, health issues, dealing with study, social stress and anxiety, accommodation, employment, personal crisis as well as advice on College policy and procedures, and refer students as required
  • Develop, implement and monitor programs, resources and services that promote the wellbeing of students and student experience
  • Case manage students requiring support and refer to external agencies as required
  • Collaborate with professional organisations and government agencies on issues relating to support, referral, advocacy
  • Monitor welfare and safety arrangements in accordance with relevant legislation and act as a contact officer for student emergencies
  • Ongoing liaison with students around accommodation, wellbeing and guardianship arrangements in keeping with relevant legislation where appropriate

In addition to a student-first approach it is essential you can demonstrate:  

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree and/or formal social work qualification, combined with substantial relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of student support programs for students, preferably in a tertiary environment
  • High level interpersonal and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to consult, counsel and liaise with a wide range people from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively prioritise multiple task
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve sensitive issues in a confidential manner
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, relevant legislation and policies and procedures relating to international students
