About the role
It’s an exciting time at Orica. Our Digital Solutions business is continually developing cutting-edged technologies which are changing the Mining and Infrastructure sectors as we know them.
Due to this significant growth within our Digital Solutions business, we are delighted to announce that we are inviting applications for the exciting opportunity of Software Engineer.
Working alongside our friendly and supportive team in our offices in Welshpool, Perth WA, the primary responsibility of the Software Engineer is to develop, design, integrate and maintain high quality software for Orica’s software products relating to our new and groundbreaking sensor technology.
The Software Engineer will form a crucial part of our Engineering, Commercial and Research & Development Digital Solutions teams, providing technical guidance to the members of the Software Engineering team and be responsible for ensuring software produced is high calibre and conforms to Orica standards.

What you will be doing
- Development, testing, deployment and maintenance of cloud and edge-device based data acquisition and processing services;
- Signal processing, algorithm development and data analysis;
- Efficient algorithm development with a focus on big data & IoT processing;
- Working with internal stakeholders to define & design new products and features;
- Peer review and feedback on pull requests, feature designs & architectural decisions with colleagues;
- Documentation and delivering training for our software products;
- Troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading existing systems;
What you will bring
- Degree qualified with broad experience across the Software Engineering domain;
- Able to write clean, well structured, documented and tested code;
- Leadership aptitude to coach inexperienced team members, build teamwork and culture and manage change in a rapidly growing organisation;
- A minimum of 1y professional experience as a Software Engineer;
- Experienced with Python, Linux, IoT, Databases (Time Series & Relational), Service Busses/ Queued & Async Messaging, Web Development;
- Knowledgeable on Microservices Architecture, Docker, DevOps, Big Data, Orchestration & Automation & Paas Data Focused Offerings (Azure/AWS Preferred).
