About the Legal Aid NT:
Legal Aid NT is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990 (NT). Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.
About the role:
Under the supervision and direction of the Managing Solicitor, assess, process, and determine complex applications for grants of legal aid across a range of legal matter types and manage the allocation of cases to inhouse practice areas and private lawyers. Provide training to lawyers and administrative staff in relation to grant matters and assist in the management of the Legal Aid panel of private lawyers.
About you:
Legal Aid NT are looking for a solicitor with a particular interest in social justice, with high-level initiative including the ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision in undertaking tasks and addressing challenges. You will have an interest in and aptitude for administrative decision-making and a knowledge of relevant legal procedures to work within a busy practice area of Legal Aid NT.
Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to engage with vulnerable individuals from diverse backgrounds, including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and First Nations peoples.
